I couldn’t post this before Christmas since it was a present so I’m sharing it with you now. Dominic is our newest grandson and was born back in September. His daddy is our son, Joe and his momma is Jenn who loves handmade things. In recent years our family has worked on accumulating old photos and trying to get pictures for everyone (cd’s have made this so much easier). Anyway since most families wind up splitting up photos and not everyone gets a pic of uncle fill in the blank, I wanted Dominic to have his own photo album that included pictures of his momma & daddy all for his very own. Of course this ups the bar for future babies born in the family (my daughter pointed this one out to me when she said ‘are you going to make one of these for all the children that are born in the future?’ – she’s such a treasure) and I’ve made back pics of Joe and Jenn but will have to start from scratch for Tim, Douglas, Mike & Kate. There were a lot of hours put into this project from chosing pics, downloading them, ordering prints & then mounting them but it was a lot of fun and the final product really pleased me and momma Jenn! She will finish the book as years go along but she’s got a good start to jump off from.
We celebrated Christmas at Donna & Tim’s on New Years Day. They had been in Alabama visiting his family and we were glad to be able to get together before we had to head home to Georgia. Joe, Jenn & baby Dominic, Kate & Rob, Doug’s Dad & Mei and her sister and Doug & I had a lovely time with Donna, Tim, Andrew & Noah. Of course we had food which is always good and there were presents and of course picture taking which everyone loves. Baby Dominic is getting so big and his personality is starting to come out. He smiles and giggles and Uncle Tim even rocked him to sleep. I loved getting time to play with him and I miss them all when we head back home. It usually takes a few weeks to get back into home mode and stop feeling depressed about being away from them all. Christmas just really does an emotional whammy on me I guess but it happens every year and I come out of it every year as well.
Okay, I really should have included these photos in the previous post of Christmas at Mom & Daddy’s but I didn’t and this is why. Out of the three subjects in these photos only one is always ready with a smile (or wacky face) the other two usually act as if you are asking for a body part to be donated sans pain killing medication. I will let you figure out who is who and maybe the other two will be more agreeable in the future although I must say the one has vastly improved since her teenage years (oops that was a hint). This will probably cost me in the long run but I’m going to enjoy it while I can I mean it’s not like I just started pulling out the camera – this has been going on since I was a teenager and got my first Kodak 220 camera a very long time ago 🙂
Wednesday after Christmas we celebrated at mom & daddy’s. Erik, Holly, Melissa, Joe was home from Elgin for the Christmas and New Year holidays, Jennifer, Louis, James,Misty, Eric, Kylie, Tory, Damon, Tim, Doug, Timothy, mom, dad & I were all there. There was plenty of food (always) and fun.
For those who are unaware of Damon’s dislike of squirrels, our torture of him is just plain fun for us (except for when it comes to bite us in the butt like last year when he gave me the squirrel nutcracker and a bazillion bags of walnuts). This year I gave him a small squirrel momento whereas Misty gave him a Squirrel board game (which we played and it was fun collecting nuts).
Santa brought Kylie a most unusual toy this Christmas called Doggie Doo. As you can well imagine this includes a dog and doo. You feed the dog, he makes outrageous noises (no i did not video it – sorry) and then doos. It even includes shovels to clean the doo up. What will they think of next?? It did make for a lot of laughter and giggles and not just from the girls either. 🙂
We stopped at my sister, Misty & her husband Eric’s to visit them and the girls, Kylie & Tory. She decorates the house so cute. Reese, her bassett, and Carol the cat came and visited with us too. I love to spoil and love on Reese but she also saved some hugs for Doug too. Carol even paid her respects to him too. Mom, Dad & Damon with us to visit too. Homemade popcorn was made in the new popcorn popper they got for Christmas too.
I can’t bear to try blogging while I’m vacationing there is just too much going on. We hit the ground running when we got to Maryland the day after Christmas and did not stop until we got home to Georgia the day after New Years. It’s a whirlwind ride and through the pics I get to enjoy my visits with family all over again.
I cannot believe Dominic was already over 3 months old at Christmas!! He is such a cutie pie and a very good baby. Okay so all grandparents think their child is cute and good but Dominic really really is 🙂 We went shopping with Kate the Tuesday after Christmas and after we were through we stopped by and visited with Joe & Dominic. Jenn was working and we didn’t catch up with her until New Years Eve 😦
Kate enjoys being an aunt and this was the first time Doug was able to see the grandbaby. Joe is doing babysitting duty during the days when Jenn works and he doesn’t. Dominic is such a happy little guy and played and talked (okay baby noises but he’s trying) and finally let his grandma (me) walk him to sleep. It’s so nice to have a litty bitty to hug and cuddle and I miss the stink out of him now that I”m back home in Georgia.
The Houghton Family had their first reunion in many many many years. Lots of fun and the kids swam (I remember it being much bigger when I was there as a child) and played on the boat. There was plenty of food and the day ended with the usual thunder storm of years past. All in all it was a fun day catching up and meeting new family members too. The first 3 photos are courtesy of George.
