I am a follower of Turtlegirl and she has been working on socks lately and has inspired me to knit socks again (that and the fact that it’s been cold off and on and I had to give up the flops for winter). Sooooo I started a pair of socks!
I am knitting them using Wise Hilda’s Basic Ribbed Sock pattern and Opal yarn which is written entirely in German (the yarn not the pattern – i’d really be in a bind then). I’m assuming (here again I shall be careful because we all know what they say about assuming) that either the Farbe 3704 or the Partie 2 is the color # and possibly lot #. Basically the color is purple, blue & black with white. It is not a to die for color but it will work with parts of my wardrobe and that’s all that matters. That and I am using stashed yarn and this didn’t cost the hubby any more money 🙂 which will make him happy and I’m all about making him happy – most of the time anyway. The pattern calls for 1.5 double points but all I had were 1’s so hopefully the fact that I tend to stitch a little loose will make up for the difference. That or mom gets the socks since she’s the only one with littler feet than me 🙂
Another project that I have been putting off is taking up dress pants. Yuck. And that’s how I feel about it on a good day. I tried the whole stitch whitchery (i’m sure it’s spelled wrong but you know what i’m talking about) thing which works by ironing on the sticky stuff and will hold the pants as long as you don’t wash them. Which I did. Then the stuff starts letting go and the hem falls out and you have to wear really high high heels or stacked shoes and only part of the hem is hanging low and the rest is still holding and you just plain look funny. Which by the way is how I went to church Sunday and I was embarrassed at myself and now I am hemming the pants up by hand. Of course note that it’s 3 days later and I am just now going to get to the hemming after I finish posting about it in the blog and if I don’t get sidetracked by something more fun or interesting (like cleaning the sink or floor or something). It’s one of those chores that has to be done unless one continually wants to be playing with stitch whitchery and irons and I don’t, really I don’t.
We celebrated Christmas at Donna & Tim’s on New Years Day. They had been in Alabama visiting his family and we were glad to be able to get together before we had to head home to Georgia. Joe, Jenn & baby Dominic, Kate & Rob, Doug’s Dad & Mei and her sister and Doug & I had a lovely time with Donna, Tim, Andrew & Noah. Of course we had food which is always good and there were presents and of course picture taking which everyone loves. Baby Dominic is getting so big and his personality is starting to come out. He smiles and giggles and Uncle Tim even rocked him to sleep. I loved getting time to play with him and I miss them all when we head back home. It usually takes a few weeks to get back into home mode and stop feeling depressed about being away from them all. Christmas just really does an emotional whammy on me I guess but it happens every year and I come out of it every year as well.
I finally finished a calorimetry headband for myself. The rest that I made were for gifts for Christmas so it will be nice to have one for me. This was made using Sensations Angel Hair Stripes.
After making the previous neck wrap and liking it so much I made 2 more – one for Doug’s aunt and one for mom. Mom really liked the colors in the one I was making for Doug’s Aunt and since it only used one skein of yarn I made Mom one with the remaining ball of yarn. I used Lion Brand Tweed Stripes in Woodlands colorway.
Matching headband and neck wrap for me. The wrap was made using 10 1/2 needles and by casting on 120 stitches and knitting in the round. I made this one a little different by knitting the first 9 rows in an alternating knit, purl pattern (the last & first stitch were the same). The middle rows were made by YO, knit 2 together across and ending with the knit 2 tog. The last 6 rows were the alternating knit, purl and then cast off. You could adjust this pattern any way you wanted. I used 2 skeins of Sensations Angel Hair Stripes to make both.
I’m thinking about socks now since I’ve really enjoyed wearing the ones I already have. Although I probably won’t have them finished in time to wear this year as slow as I am with socks 🙂
Mom has plenty of feeders and plenty of birds and squirrels that come visit them. I didn’t get a picture of the hawk this year, i guess I didn’t get up early enough to see him.
Just watching these squirrels I should do their exercise program and I’d be in shape in no time – or die of a heart attack lol.
Okay, I really should have included these photos in the previous post of Christmas at Mom & Daddy’s but I didn’t and this is why. Out of the three subjects in these photos only one is always ready with a smile (or wacky face) the other two usually act as if you are asking for a body part to be donated sans pain killing medication. I will let you figure out who is who and maybe the other two will be more agreeable in the future although I must say the one has vastly improved since her teenage years (oops that was a hint). This will probably cost me in the long run but I’m going to enjoy it while I can I mean it’s not like I just started pulling out the camera – this has been going on since I was a teenager and got my first Kodak 220 camera a very long time ago 🙂
Wednesday after Christmas we celebrated at mom & daddy’s. Erik, Holly, Melissa, Joe was home from Elgin for the Christmas and New Year holidays, Jennifer, Louis, James,Misty, Eric, Kylie, Tory, Damon, Tim, Doug, Timothy, mom, dad & I were all there. There was plenty of food (always) and fun.
For those who are unaware of Damon’s dislike of squirrels, our torture of him is just plain fun for us (except for when it comes to bite us in the butt like last year when he gave me the squirrel nutcracker and a bazillion bags of walnuts). This year I gave him a small squirrel momento whereas Misty gave him a Squirrel board game (which we played and it was fun collecting nuts).
Santa brought Kylie a most unusual toy this Christmas called Doggie Doo. As you can well imagine this includes a dog and doo. You feed the dog, he makes outrageous noises (no i did not video it – sorry) and then doos. It even includes shovels to clean the doo up. What will they think of next?? It did make for a lot of laughter and giggles and not just from the girls either. 🙂
We stopped at my sister, Misty & her husband Eric’s to visit them and the girls, Kylie & Tory. She decorates the house so cute. Reese, her bassett, and Carol the cat came and visited with us too. I love to spoil and love on Reese but she also saved some hugs for Doug too. Carol even paid her respects to him too. Mom, Dad & Damon with us to visit too. Homemade popcorn was made in the new popcorn popper they got for Christmas too.
